| Details | Dextrose injection is a sterile solution used to provide your body with extra water and carbohydrates (calories from sugar). It is used when a patient is not able to drink enough liquids or when additional fluids are needed. It can also be used to correct hypernatraemia (by replacing lost water) and to aid the correction of hyperkalaemia (through the promotion of insulin production which in turn causes potassium to move from plasma into cells). It is a large volume parenteral solution containing dextrose and sodium chloride in water for injection intended for intravenous administration. |
